Ministry says Russia’s food imports fall by 31.2% in 5 years

MOSCOW, Aug 5 (PRIME) -- Russia’s food imports fell 31.2% in the last five years to U.S. $29.8 billion in 2018, the Agriculture Ministry said in a statement on Monday.

“This country reduced food imports by 31.2% in the last five years to $29.8 billion in 2018 from $43.3 billion in 2013. Russia reached and over fulfilled the threshold levels of the food security doctrine for several types of food, thanks to the imports replacement policy,” the ministry said.

The share of locally produced grain stood at 99.4% in 2018 compared to the target level of 95%, of sugar 95.7% against 80%, of oil 81.5% against 80%, of meat and meat products 92.8% against 85%.
